What are the correct brass insignias for the Kepi? My relative was in ‘H Co, 7th Mass. (Edward F. Hall, Private) I have the standard insignia for infantry. Is the numeral ‘7’ and an ‘H’ historically correct for the kepi? What is the placement for the ‘7’ and an ‘H’?
Thanks

I don't re-enact but I'm sure our cracker jack reenactors will know. paging @captaindrew

Regulations called for the number to be placed inside the horn with the company letter on the front but they usually put them on the top disc over the horn and on top of the corps. badge of they had it. I've seen a bunch of different configurations though.

I tried to get a few photos and post them for you but I'm on the road and just have my phone and couldn't figure out how to do it. If you do a search on federals forage caps and kepis you'll see it.
