I am working on a diorama depicting the advance of the 55th North Carolina Infantry on McPherson's Ridge, Gettysburg about 10:45am 1 July 1863. To be as accurate as possible I would like any info on the known/likely formation of the 55th as they moved across open fields towards the 76th NY. I assume it would be a battle line, 2 ranks deep but would the regimental command group (senior officers, colour bearer, drummer etc.) be together, or in close proximity of each other for obvious reasons? Any suggestions would be welcome.
