Comments: Enlisted May 3, 1862 at Savannah for 12 months. Recorded on Company Muster Roll dated Jan 1 to Aug 31, 1864 as "Present." Appears on a Receipt Roll for clothing issued October 1864. Captured near Petersburg March 25, 1865 and imprisoned at Point Lookout. Released on Oath of Allegiance June 22, 1865 by G.O. 109, AGO. Enumerated on the 1850 US census for Appling County, GA as John Wilds, age 2o, male, mulatto.[Race from census]

Enlisted by and served under General W.E. "Grumble" Jones at Abington, Virginia as a teamster. He was then assigned to Captain Watkins on a detail working the salt works. He was again transferred to the hospital at Emory & Henry, working for the Assistant Quartermaster.
