North Carolina Pension Application

Enos Jacobs

FMC served with Company F, 2nd NC Infantry Battalion (Local Defense Troops)

Enos is the epitome of persistence. 5 times between the years 1912-1916 the Sampson County Pension Board approved his application, only to have the State Board reject it. "I was a Colored work-hand at Fort(s) Casewell and Rowan during the War. I threw up breastworks, rolled sand, and dug up the turf to put over the sand, to keep it from blowing away. I remained in the war until the peace. I was a Cook for my Captain Jim (James W.) Strange, Privates Walter Miles Draughon, and Buckner S. Peterson, and sometimes assigned to the salt works. I served faithfully from 1863-1865".
