My ancestor William Washington Ward died in february of 1865 at camp Chase from pneumonia. Maybe he is in those photos, but we dont know what he looked like.

Has anyone noticed that Chase, Rock Island, Douglas, Hellmira and otherwise notorious Northern prison camps at least had barracks?

Seems that the problem was in putting groups together wherein contagions could flourish. Many of these people were exposed to diseases they had never before been exposed to. Get measles when you're 20 is a whole bunch more serious than getting it when you are a pre-teen.
