Confederate Catholic chaplain reenactors?

I'd welcome any intel from anyone who has ever encountered a reenactor in the role of a Catholic southern chaplain -- specifically Fr. Darius Hubert, a Jesuit priest attached to the First Louisiana Infantry but who ministered widely throughout the ranks in the ANV.

I have encountered some faux artifacts purporting to have been his in a museum; the "certificate of authenticity" that came with them when they were purchased cannot, apparently, now be found. Nothing about these items is authentic, so the certificate, if it ever turns up, will prove to be fraudulent as well.

Best case scenario: they are or were reenactor props. I'd love to believe this, so am casting my net here.

Worst case (and sadly, more likely I think), they are deliberate fakes (including clumsily forged signature, etc.).

For those of you in the know, how common is this? Do museums spend enough time ensuring their displays are accurate and their artifacts authentic?
