Compilation of Recent American Battlefield Trust Videos

I'm glad the ABT folks are doing this. There are lot of buffs in town this week who are very disappointed in the absence of battle walks by the NPS. It is the battle walks where you find old friends who have been coming here for the anniversary week, in many cases for decades. Everybody understands what happened last year, but this year should have been much better than it is.

Great video, showing a lot of time off the beaten path, and even some time on the new path. And a great ending "Thwarted".
Boy, do I ever know that predicament! (Feb. 5-8, 1988 :cold:).
Lubliner.

The fighting on Culp's Hill on July 2nd doesn't enough attention the way that Little Round Top and Pickett's charge does.

It is mentioned in the video about Major Samuel Starr striking a soldier with the flat of sword. It was a liitle more than that. Starr was colonel of the 5th NJ and also commander of the 3rd Brigade Hooker's Division at Yorktown. One day "Paddy" got a little indisposed, rode over a sentinel, refused to give the countersign, and used abusive language. Later he rode into a detail of the 74th NY and struck a soldier over the head with the flat of the sword. He then called the soldier "A God Damned son of a *****." He was charged with "conduct unbecoming an officer and a gentleman" and "conduct prejudicial to good order and discipline." His punishment was removal of brigade command. His replacement was Brig Gen Francis Patterson, son of Gen. Robert Patterson.
