Myers served as the first Confederate Quartermaster General, before he retired and was replaced by Alexander Lawton.

Myers was the right man in the right job at the start of the war. He was able to quickly put together a Quartermaster department for the army, staff it, create its procedures, and start the supply and support systems the army needed. Once he had the department running, he was no longer the right man for the job -- the job had become one of making more robust and lasting supply systems for the army and he just did not have the vision for that. Lawton was an excellent replacement, but got to build on Myers' foundation.
