I wanted to share some images of various axes and hatchets I've dug at civil war camp sites and plantations over the years. Mainly from the Vicksburg, MS area.
Probably one of the most utilized tools - Used cut wood, establish a camp site, build homes, possible defensive use.
They haven't changed much over the years...:smile:
Thanks for looking.

Nice collection of axes and hatches. Thanks for sharing. It also looks like some of those axes are pretty worn out.
I've got a couple in there that were heavily used and resharpened. Those axes and hatchets were very durable and lasted a long time. Many were passed down and survived a few generations of use.

@Tom Hughes
The only big find that I dug up was the head of a sledge hammer. Our group thought it was a Railroad hammer since the RR tracks were nearby. It was a little tapered but it was not a spike hammer or maul. I don't remember what it exactly looked like. I wish I could find a photo of one to see if you thought it might date back to 19th Century at least.
