Hey, I'm just the comic relief and the one that Richard can roll his eyes at when I make a stupid statement like about vent holes. Also, I leave the "little " bullets to Richard and stick to the bigger ones because they are much harder to lose or damage, but much harder on the body to move.
A slight addendum to this post, yesterday I went to see a doctor about some shoulder pain that I was having and after the examination and being told that I was fixing to get a new shoulder joint, he asked what my activities were and I told him that I collected cannonballs to which he just grinned and said: You know, if I had more patients that collected cannonballs like you; I could retire... Just a word of wisdom to collectors of the "iron maidens". 😉

The going out of business sale should be starting any day now.

I am started to struggle with my 44 pounder shells a little. :D

Interesting chat topic. I'm new here and just stumbled on this thread as my wife is driving us to work. I have a small toolbox that my grandfather handed down to me before he passed away back in the 1980s. He was an avid relic hunter from Monterey, VA. What he dug, he put into drawers in the toolbox and labeled said drawer with the location. Would you guys/girls be interested in some pictures of the box? I can open the drawers so you can see the items in each drawer as well as the label. Been a while since I've been through the box, but some are labeled Camp Allegheny, Bartow, Wilderness, etc. I'll have to look to get more information. Mostly drawers of bullets though.

Bring them on, I believe that you will find a receptive audience here for them and welcome to the group from middle Alabama.

Ok, sorry folks, haven't been on since my last post. I did find some pics on my phone, of the box I described. I will caveat this as follows: I have no idea what was put into this box by my grandfather, so it's possible that not everything was a dug find, but my understanding is that they are. I'm completely open to any information or feedback anyone has to offer. I don't claim to know anything more than what you will see. I do have a book on civil war relics that also belonged to my grandfather. As a side note, I do own two heirloom items from my Great Great Grandfather, who was a carpenter before the Civil War, a member of the 31st VA INF, and a CSA Post Master from January 1864 until who knows. I own his war time billfold and his powder flask that I believe dates back to the 1850s. I attached some preliminary photos in the next message. I can take some more detailed pics later.
