I started collecting Civil War photos, both CDVs and hard images in 1982 and in time I
got some nice ones in my collection. I enjoyed collecting and displaying my images and
I liked to help others learn and also learn more myself.
A decade or so ago I got a surprise inherited illness and the doctor told my wife that
I would die soon or be what I would call brain dead. So, I sold my most expensive images
so my family would get the money. A few weeks went by and wouldn't you know it the doctor
told us that the illness was not going to kill me afterall, and I would probably live for many
years. Well, I started collecting again and this time I knew more about the images and how to
acquire them, and I think that my second collection is better than my first.
I think that losing one's collection is not so bad, because it can possibly be replaced. But if one
were to lose his collecting knowledge, that would be much worse.
