Does anyone have any information on Co.A Willis Cavalry, Wauls Texas Legion? I am interested in their service in the CW especially during the Vicksburg campaign.

We had a discussion about when dod Willis Cavalry separate from the Legion.
Waul's Legion was sent to Fort Pemberton (Greenwood, Miss) in March 1863. It appears tge Cavaly became an independant command soon ADTER this battle. But I dont have the immediate history for the next couple of months.
A new booklet was published recently on Fot Oemberton: "Yazoo Pass Expedition".
After the fall of Vicksburg, Gen Chalmers began forming cavalry units that became his cavakry division. Eventually, Willis TX Cav would be in McCulloch's Brigade of Chalmers Division. They would participate inthe Battle if Fort Pillow TN on April 12, 1864.

I will try to check some of my sources.
