Although not obviously related directly to the Civil War, this week Throwback Thursday revisits Christmas Long Past. This photo dates to around 1950 or thereabouts, a year or so after moving into our then-brand-new 1949 house in a Dallas, Texas suburb. Although there aren't any presents directly relating to the war, there's at least the inevitable cap pistol - how politically Incorrect!!! - and a wind-up tin tank and a plastic motorcycle and sidecar. The lithographed steel gas station at center, likely a product of the Louis Marx Company of West Virginia, was possibly the first of literally a couple of dozen similar products, including the so-called play sets like the Revolutionary War seen in the Polaroid below that I've set up on the living room floor in a different house and at least a half-dozen years later.
