This week's Throwback on today's anniversary of the Battle of Chickamauga is a bit of Civil War Centennial foolishness advertising the nearby venerable (?) Chattanooga attraction, The Confederama, which currently resides atop Lookout Mountain. For more about it: https://www.civilwartalk.com/threads/classic-roadside-attraction-the-confederama.90654/
For more about Chattanooga's Lookout Mountain during the Centennial: https://www.civilwartalk.com/thread...from-the-1960s-and-1970s.150061/#post-1895783

Anyone else having old Civil War-related photos, mementoes, or memorabilia is welcome and encouraged to post them here in this thread as well!

My Grandparents lived in Rossville Ga. only 1/2 mile from the battlefield at Chickamauga and my brother and I would spend endless hours and days trooping the battlefield. My Grandfather took us to the Confederama several times. Love that place.

I hope to see this in October with the gang.

My parents took us to Gettysburg in about 1974, showed us our family members who were there and bought us our first Civil War books.

Really looking forward to the upcoming Chickamauga Battlefield tour.

Isn't funny how many times you've read advertisements for books or battlefields proclaiming this was the "battle that sealed the fate of the Confederacy."

Truly, though in the case of Chattanooga the claim has reasonable validity.

The first time we went to Lookout Mountain I was so young and dumb I thought Stonewall Jackson and Andy Jackson were the same guy. My Dad had a 54 Ford.

I had that book and a whole shelf full of Landmark books; my parents were very willing to buy me books. I still have the Landmarks on Daniel Boone and Marquette.
I had or read all the Civil War titles, which as I remember were: Robert E. Lee And the Road of Honor; Lee & Grant at Appomattox; Custer's Last Stand (my own personal favorite which included the war too); The Monitor & the Merrimac (or was it called Ironclads in the Civil War?); Clara Barton and the Red Cross; Stonewall Jackson; The Lincoln-Douglas Debates; and another Lincoln biography - possibly there were others.

The Landmark books! *happy sigh. I lived on those as a child. Never had that one, though...I tended to avoid the war stories. I did read Robert E. Lee (amazing...) and we do have The Monitor and the Merrimac. (James N., great guess! )

(The Mississippi Bubble and Combat Nurses of WWII were the very best of the lot. :giggle: What a good little American I am...)

Purchased this game in the old Cyclorama building gift shop 28 years ago. Had hours of fun playing it and never completely understood the rules.:O o:
