Since we're still near the anniversary of the Battle of Shiloh I thought I'd post these two photos of myself perusing a battlefield guidebook at the Pittsburg Landing overlook taken sometime in May, 1973 during a whirlwind weekend trip there with my girlfriend Charla who took them. At the time I was teaching near Hot Springs, Arkansas, and badly needed to get away, even if only for the weekend! Probably the best part of the trip (other than Charla squealing with surprise/delight during a NPS ranger's demonstration of loading and firing a musket) was our dinner at Memphis' swanky Four Flames restaurant that evening on our way back.
