Anticipating our annual CWT Gathering this year now scheduled for Vicksburg in October, here's a Throwback to a Fall 1981 visit with my reenacting friend Ed Owens who photographed me beside the famous Vicksburg Confederate artillery piece The Widow Blakely. As you can read on the sign below, this was an English import that ran the blockade and made it all the way to the Vicksburg defenses where it was damaged and repaired before being surrendered as a trophy of war before being restored here to its rightful place in Louisiana Circle. (I'm posting Throwback Thursday early this week because for the next several days I'll be on vacation to South Texas so may be absent from the forum in the interim.)
Anyone else having (preferably) old Civil War-related photos, mementoes, or memorabilia to share is welcome and encouraged to do so in this weekly thread!
