People have been remembering, re-enacting and researching the American Civil War since it broke out in 1861, trying to comprehend how it is that this nation could go to war against itself.
Among those dedicated to studying the conflict is the Knoxville Civil War Roundtable. Tonight,, the organization will meet to celebrate its 30th anniversary in a special ceremony.
In that three-decade span, the roundtable has created a record not only of bringing attention to the region’s Civil War history but also to saving what remains. Its slogan is, “For knowledge, commemoration and preservation of our Civil War heritage”
Founded and officially chartered by Knoxville attorney Norman Shaw in April 1983, the KCWRT has grown from a handful to well over 170 members today.
