For instance (and who is this man??), this person's pic led to many, many others taken from different times of his life dressed in uniform and not - from what looks the Civil War to old age including what appears to be a few "in the field" photos.

Civil War Union Brigadier General. Born in Tours, France. He was married to a New York heiresswhen the Civil War Began. He took out American citizenship and entered the service as Colonel of the 55th New York Infantry, later known as the "Lafayette Guard." He fought on the Peninsula in 1862 as a regimental commander and as a brigade commander at Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, and Gettysburg where he defended Dan Sickles' senter at the Peach Orchard. After Gettysburg, not much of the III Corps was left and was consolidated into the II Corps where he was assigned another brigade until he was promoted to a division command. Commissioned Brigadier General, US Volunteers in January 1864 and then Major General by brevet on April 9, 1865. [SIZE=-1](bio by: Ethan F. Bishop)[/SIZE]
