Civil War General Johnston and his Washington beginnings

Cody Evans, The Ledger Independent

The Albert Sidney Johnston House in Washington was built in the 1790s. The last owners were the Lane family. The last survivor, Mattie Lane, deeded the house to the Mason County Fiscal Court with the provision she remain in the house during her natural life. Upon her death in 1951, the house became the property of Mason County Fiscal Court.

WASHINGTON | Confederate General Albert Sidney Johnston, who died at the Battle of Shiloh (Tenn.) on April 6, 1962, during the American Civil War claimed Texas as his home state, but Kentucky is where he was born.

More important to local historians and Mason County, the town of Washington is where Albert Sidney Johnston was born on Feb. 2, 1803, and lived until he left for Transylvania College in the 1820s. He returned to Kentucky in 1834 to care for his dying wife, Henrietta, and stayed until 1836, when he resumed his military career.

We have been to house several times. Washington has Christmas Days , actually suppose to be this weekend. They had ice storm over in that area . We got mostly snow and some ice. Many things have been cancelled, so don't know about the Washington event.
