My father was very interested in the Civil War era and amassed a couple of large collections of pewter pieces from Francis Barnum and Andrew Chernak. We have over 140 pieces, most of them signed. We need money for his healthcare so we want to liquidate these collectibles. Any ideas? Auction? Gift shops? Museum? Thanks for reading

VERY NICE COLLECTION. Are you wanting to part with them as a whole group or piece them out?

Welcome! Sorry to hear about your situation. I wish your Father well.
I suppose the first thing is deciding how much you want for each piece. And whether you want to sell individual pieces. There will probably be some interest here.
Good luck!

It is always difficult to decide how to part with a loved collection because you need the money. First you have to figure out what you will take for the items. Then you can sell them on line with one of the Civil War sales sites or if I were doing it I would probably find a large Civil War show, (possibly Gettysburg or here in Virginia) and get a table and sell there. The fastest return would be to sell the collection to a dealer but that would probably give the lowest return because a dealer will have to make a profit when they sell them. I'm sure all of us here wish you the best of luck and will send our prayers for your father. Z
