I just purchased a hardcover copy of "The Civil War Archive" originally edited by Henry Steel Commager, but revised and expanded by Erik Bruun and reprinted in 2000. It contains a veritable gold mine of sources both during and post Civil War. Some of the additions are of sources written by and about freeman and former slave regiments, emancipation, and reconstruction. the sources are varied in subject and scope. I picked it up in Waldenbooks for 10$ with a bargain price tag on it.
If you don't have it, i recomend you pick it up. Amazon.com has it for 14.98 -19.77 http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/s...r+Archive+Bruun

if anyone has comments on this book, either post or PM me.

Dear Matt,
I got it last year at Borders, also on sale. I got it to use some of the excerpts for class, I didn't end up doing that this year, but its good! I liked the "last will and testament of Johnny Reb" the boy Lt. summing up what the war meant to him, and uncertainity of the future.
