Church of the Transfiguration: The Church at the Heart of Civil War Era Irish Five Points

The old Five Points neighborhood is still an immigrant center, with Chinese being the country of origin for most people. Here is the scene on Mott Street from the corner of the church:

The reason I was in Chinatown was to meet with Congresswoman Nydia Velazquez at the Chinese Benevolent Association. The organization, which dates back to the 1800s, has a nice exhibit in its waiting room on the history of Chinatown. It is in English and Chinese.

Most of the panels are from the 1890s and onward, but this one was of a Frank Lesley's issue from 1870 showing the Chinese on Mott St.
