The strange thing was the museum posted this on the 18th with no mention of Chamberlain or the 1st Maine Heavy Artillery's actions 150 years ago that day.

We can all wonder at how they are going to manage to get Chamberlain himself to appear for this event.

Don't know if we have any stamp collectors out there. Bowdoin professor Patrick Rael recommends this as a great sarcastic hipster gift.

"BRUNSWICK — The Pejepscot Historical Society and U.S. Postal Service will hold a special stamp cancellation at the Joshua Chamberlain Museum July 2.

Post office representatives will be on hand from 3-5 p.m. to sell Medal of Honor stamps and offer the one-day-only Chamberlain pictorial cancellation.

The cancellation, designed by the historical society and approved by the post office, celebrates Chamberlain's service in the Civil War and the 151st anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg, where Chamberlain earned his Medal of Honor, which is on display at the museum...."

Chamberlain has become a modern day hero and rightly so in reality he wasn't all that big in the Civil War but as an individual he was a great man. I have read several of his books it was quite a fascinating fellow but even he might say with all these generals and presidents whereas Sheridan.
