Cast iron dutch oven, root veggies, black beans and ham bone/Soup or stew..

Pulled out the Dutch oven #10 to cook up the hambone from Easter. I rinsed the packet of black beans, then set them covered in water at 275 for about an hour. This will soften the beans, but not make them mushy. Added ham bone with meat attached. Cut up 1/2 a medium rutabega, 4 parsnips..I always get the thinner ones..half an onion. Several grinds of pepper. Let cook several hours, at 350 degrees F. watching the liquid, so you don’t burn the beans. Add carrot disks, at about the 2 hr mark..after you have turned up the heat, and about a Tablespoon of cumin. You can add cayenne pepper if you like things spicy..or serve with hot sauce on the side. The smell of it cooking is killing me! Noms as soon an the cornbread muffins are done..but that is another thread!
