Capt. Schwartz, sharpshooter, 39th New York

The handgun looks like a Savage Model 1861 Navy revolver.

I wanted to say that one as well, but the only name I could think of readily was Pettingill; there are several other manufacturers of silly-looking revolvers like these! Looking more carefully last night in Bell Wiley and Millhollen's They Who Fought Here, I also saw I was mistaken about the saber - it appears to be a European one patterned after a ca. 1800 French model, but is still definitely a cavalry saber and not an infantry officer's sword. The shirt is of a style that has often been discussed here in the forums because it was the standard work shirt of the day, loose-fitting with bloused sleeves; simply add a fancy plasteron or bib to the front and it becomes the so-called fireman's shirt.
