Cannon installation closes out 11-year Fort Anderson project

Nearly 155 years after the fall of the Civil War fort, Brunswick Town/Fort Anderson State Historic Site staff have installed a fireable cannon.

WINNABOW – For the staff at Brunswick Town/Fort Anderson State Historic Site, Thursday might as well have been Christmas morning. The day started with butterflies of anticipation, and ended with cheers, fist pumps, a few happy dances and one big celebratory boom. For the staff, there were more than 11 years of reasons to celebrate as they finally mounted a 32-pounder seacoast cannon on one of the emplacements carved into the Civil War fort’s defensive earthworks more than 150 years ago.
