Greetings folks. First, if this is in wrong place admin I apologize.

Secondly,
Can anyone identify this item I recently found metal detecting? MY guess is it’s a brass sabot from a cannon round. It was found approx 30’ from where a buddy dug a GREAT shenkyl shell fuse. The area is known for being the location of a small artillery duel. Item appears to have rifling to the outside band. Heavy in weight, definitely not lead.

Thoughts anyone? Thanks in advance.

Looks like the base of a parrott shell.

There are several different patterns of the parrott shell plus its been fired. Trust me its a parrott base, dug a many of them

A little bit more research has lead me to it being the copper sabot off a Confederate Read Shell. Not brass, good call
I’m glad you followed through with more research. If you continue looking you will find that there are several different types of Read sabots out there and I hope you can determine which it is. A few are uncommon, even for Confederate Reads.
