Spent a few hours over at Camp Butler this morning. Walked until my shoes were full of water. It is a bit wet here at the moment. Camp Butler was a Union Army mustering point as well as prisoner camp during the war. Maybe not as well know as Camp Douglas near Chicago but still impressive for it's size. Many of the captured soldiers were from the Mississippi Campaigns. I started out looking at the Texas Cavalry stones. The 24th and 25 Texas Cavalry being of the greatest number. Here are some photos taken with a few others that may be of interest. I will head back after it dries out a bit. There are more Texas headstones photo

Please don't put so many in a single post right now -- the download time is really slow with everyone working from home.

Still learning the ins and out’s ..... do‘s and don’t’ of the forum
Keep chugging along.
Sometimes I reduce my images before posting them. However, when I upgraded Windows, it deleted Windows Photo Editor program that used to be on all PC's. It was an easy program and I could go through many photos and reduce them with only 2 or 3 clicks and then Save As with a suffix on the file name. And it did not distort the image like Paint does.

Where is Camp Butler located?

Camp Butler is located in Springfield Illinois. North east edge town. I may resize photos moving forward. Thanks.

I should clarify that these troops appear to have been involved In Mississippi River campaigns and Arkansas Post. A large number of Tennessee troops are also buried at Camp Butler.
