If we were in the 15th century, John C. Sims might be held up as the ideal of a Renaissance man. He creates and collaborates on projects that cross all kinds of boundaries and draw on all kinds of bases of knowledge, from multidisciplinary artistic expression to political activism to mathematics (a subject in which he holds a doctorate degree), often as not combined in the same work.
