I've been reading about Wilcox as I research the Alabama 8th, a part of his command. Thanks for adding a bit more history. The 8th were on my place during the winter of 64/64. As for healing, a unit of the Virginia Colored State Defense Force marched in Gen. Pickets funeral procession.

You made me curious who these Generals were thad were pallbearers at his funeral.
While searching I found this earlier thread on Cadmus Wilcox:

which unfortunately also did not give the names.
In the book "From Blue to Gray: the life of Confederate General Cadmus M. Wilcox" by Gerard A. Patterson only three generals from either side are named: Union Generals Parks, McFeeley and Casey and Confederate Generals Heth, Charles Field and Beverly Robertson.

I wonder why even Jeffry Wert is talking about four pallbearers from each side but does not give the names?

I have an original of Wilcox's treatise on musketry instruction and suspect the appendix was used to train the Confederate sharpshooter battalions in the ANV.
