Pittsburgh-area excavators unearth some Civil War-era history

An excavator operator with Franjo Construction reached out to the Pittsburgh Bomb Squad after finding several cannonballs.

Looks like 12lber's with Boreman fuses. Looks like a bunch were found but I know what comes next if the bomb squad is involved.

According to the article that I saw earlier, the US Army still owns these balls and with the equipment operator's record of finding these caches; who needs a metal detector.

I live in Pittsburgh, this actually happened a couple years ago, I'm not sure what the final disposition of the balls was though.

I do, If like all the others found, EOD did not disarm them. The Boreman fuse in the photo is disfigured and some I see in the digging don't have fuse and were harmless.
