Finally spending some money to have a uniform tailor made...Ben Tart fabric, a highly recommended tailor. Complete with historical research done by myself, and the tailor. Now here is where I am stumped...need a source for high quality Louisiana State Seal buttons...most of what I have found is low quality. Anyone have an outstanding button source ???? Thanks.

Mainly just the mainstream sutlers...have been in contact with Hanover Brass Foundry now. They seem to be about the best for good, sturdy looking buttons. Any other specialists would be helpful. Thanks.

Hanover Brass makes their own buttons off of sand molds in brass, red brass and silver brass. Supposedly the sand molds were made off of original buttons. They do look really good, the Hanover Brass webpage could use a make over though...cluttered and hard to navigate. Thanks.

The ones Hanover Brass makes are sand cast and do not have the detail of a "high quality" button. I don't mean that as a harsh critique on Hanover Brass' products, they are really well made, but sand cast buttons are invariably crude by nature.

I would recommend you contact Military Warehouse (which is wholesale only, $100 minimum order last I checked), or perhaps some of the fellows who have taken up portraying the 3rd Louisiana at Wilson's Creek and other places. They had a run of very nice Pelican buttons (2 piece stamped copies of Hyde and Goodrich buttons IIRC), and may still have some to sell.
If you are unfamiliar with anyone in the 3rd Louisiana send me a PM and I will pass along some contact info.

Cheers,
Garrett
