Brooklyn's Grant Army Plaza with the imposing Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Arch is already one of the most impressive and most viewed Civil War commemorative sites in the country. It had been in disrepair in the 1970s, but had undergone an extensive restoration in the 1980s. Now, Mayor DeBlasio has announced that $9 Million Dollars will be spent on restoring and reopening the Arch's interior and observation deck, as well as on improving the plaza around the arch. I have never been inside the arch and look forward to this restoration. The plaza includes statues of Warren and Slocum as well as the great arch.
