- Description: Full-length bronze portrait of Brig. Gen. Samuel W. Crawford stands on a rock base. He is in the uniform of his rank, including a wide-brimmed hat. A sword hangs at his proper left side. He holds a flagpole vertically in both gloved hands, braced against his proper right knee. The flag has been cast with 34 bullet holes, one for each state in the Union, North and South. One bullet hole goes all the way through the statue, and if counted twice, once for Virginia, then again for West Virginia, you'd get 35, as West Virginia was the 35th State, and only recently admitted to the Union in 1863.
