"Served in the Mexican and Civil Wars. Enlisted on July 31 1861. Commissioned an officer in Company G Indiana 24th Infantry. Promoted to Brevet Brig. General on 26 March 1865. a key player in the Battle of Vicksburg. Mustered out on 21 July 1865."

The image in the first post is, I believe, the same image in the Orleans Town Hall (Indiana). I've seen it in person, next to his Bevet Brig. General Promotion paper, signed by Andrew Johnson. It's made out of a slab of rock it appears. However I just stumbled on a CDV of a Tin-type I believe, of the original. Looks like it was sold by Mike Medhurst some time ago. Unfortunately for me and the historical society!
