Breaded Dandelion is an old Kentucky farm favorite.

1/4 cup milk
2 tablespoons powdered milk
1 egg
1/2 cup flour
salt
16 large dandelion blooms (don't let wilt)

Combine milks, egg, flour and salt. Dip blooms in batter and fry till golden.

Pumpkin or squash blooms can also be used.

From: "Kentucky Favorites".

I like the leaves cooked, with eggs, bacon and then a hot bacon salad dressing. Not sure about eating the blooms of dandelion. Don't think I am that brave to try it.

They're delicious (so are the greens). A seasonal fav at my house (although it caused my husband a minor freakout: "why have you got the kids picking dandelions?..."we're going to EAT them?"; Honey didn't understand what he had been missing.)
Be sure to pick them when they're not too old or too young; although we always used buttermilk if possible.

My mother enjoyed dandelion greens sauteed in butter with a little salt and pepper. My sister and I breaded and fried squash blooms long ago but I'd forgotten about that. I have heard of dandelion blossom wine, jelly (supposed to be good for arthritis I've been told) but not actually eating the blossoms. If you think of it, Donna, bring this thread up again in the spring and maybe folks can find a better use for these flowers other than a target for herbicide!
