He twice led his brigade in battle when the leader had fallen.At Murfreesboro his brigade commander fell mortally wounded. Bradley led the brigade in this battle.Then again at Kennesaw Mountain He replaced a fallen brigade commander. This leadership was awarded with a brevet brigadier generalship.
