A page devoted to one of their most famous alumni. It includes a biography, photos, letters (including correspondence with his foe at Little Round Top, William Oates) and a download that you can "take a flight through the life of Joshua Chamberlain" on Google Earth.

Bowdoin has some famous alumni. I remember watching runner and Bowdoin alumnus Joan Benoit win the very first female Olympic Marathon in 1984 in L.A. In the middle of the race someone in the crowd was waving the black Bowdoin school flag as she passed by. She broke into a huge grin without turning her head or breaking her stride. After she took her gold medal a reporter asked her what it was that made her grin in the race. She said it was the Bowdoin flag, it follows her everywhere.

Thank you for this...have saved it and will visit often. Love his compassion and humility. His parents raised a good man.
Would love to know more about them.

Awesome! That will bear some repeat visits for sure! Loved the Google earth "trip"
Great Nathanb....I took my daughter on a trip tru New England when she was bout 15. Tru Vermont, across all dem little states that it takes FOReVER to get across cause of the tiny roads and small towns, cool churches, and all the cool stuff ya have to stop and take pics of ...but we finally made it to Brunswick and Bowdoin college ( my secret goal all the time during that 2 week trip) His house is beyond neat. He was so proud of his service the Maltise Cross is everywhere. On the roof, in the plaster inside, etc. His saddle, sword, and all that kinda stuff. His governor stuff. Neat house and just across the street from the college. Neat campus. My daughter and I flat gourged ourselves on lobster that night and all the way up RT 1 for the next few days....o and also Blueberries, best I have ever had. Clam chowder....hmmm....up there it is quite different than what Campbells sells here in Ohioa at Krogers. Quite different. heh
