I resemble that remark. Why do I have a suspicion you were sucking all the rum out of the cheesecloth?

I really like the look of the middle eastern version. Seems from the recipe that it won't be too sweet. It seems fruit cakes are loved around the world. I found recipes for Chinese fruit cake, Mexican fruit cake amd Middle Eastern fruit cake. Sounds like you can enjoy fruit cake anywhere you go. Admittedly, they don't fit our definition of a holiday fruit cake, but they still look delicious!

LOL...never been a fan of fruit cake, even though I occasionally come across as one Sorry, not familiar, nor tempted, but then again I'm not sure of the alcohol content either...could make a difference!According to the blog, Food Lust People Love (I did not make that up!), Australians "lust" for Aussie Boiled Fruit Cake. It looks good, but the name sort of turns me off. Boiled fruit cake sounds a little odd, but hey to each their own. @Cavalry Charger, are you familiar with this?

This doesn't look and sound like what I grew up with. I suspect my grandmother, mother and mother-in-law were most using a traditional English recipe. No matter. Don't forget Japanese Fruitcake, which seems to have lttle connection with either Japan or Fruitcake.View attachment 169765
It may have its origins in the southern US.
I was thinking that, as well!Fruit is only good when homemade, otherwise I can take or leave it - mostly leave it! The bricks sold commercially are gross doorstops. Bakery fruitcake is the next best substitute if you don't have the time nor skill to bake one yourself.
Hmm...the look of this reminds me of a 'naked' hummingbird cake, which is a popular Southern dessert.
