NF Book collection. Post Yours!

Non-Fiction
Here are the bookshelves in my home-a quite varied collection of nearly everything (including a few cat toys on the floor). I have read* about perhaps 80% of them. I also have about 3 times this number of book packed away - I
have collected books my entire life. At one time, I wanted to have a bricks & mortar bookstore when I retired, but then I realized that I would probably go nuts in a small town, sitting in my store waiting for the door to open. Unfortunately, I'm no Larry McMurtry. I am gradually selling them off on EBay. (gen.carpenter).

(Except for Moby Dick- I have wanted to read this book. I always felt that I must regiment myself to do this before I die. I keep procrastinating.)

Nice collection. If I owned a brick and mortar bookstore I would probably go out of business because I would only help guests after I had finished the chapter in a book. :smug:

This is my home library, not strictly Civil War and also a combination of books I have bought for home use and some for my classes.

Thats a great setup. I love the rock in the background. Are you a history teacher?
Yes. Middle school social studies (Ancient Civ, Geography, Early American History...and beginning next year I take over World History for 9th graders. I also have roughly 150-200 books at school, too, but those are mostly for my students to use. My 8th graders have to read a book based in history and do a project and book review so I want to make sure I have a good selection for them. I should also add that very, very few of my books were bought at full price. Most are Goodwill or Amazon Market books.

I just want to say I have much respect for what you do. If not for my history teachers I would not have the passion for the subject that I have today. You guys are awesome.
Thank you! You could say this is as close to a dream job I could have. I teach middle school (love this age group), I teach subjects like love, we have an awesome middle school staff and I also coach middle school track and field. It's basically a perfect setup for me.

I have two teachers from my high school days whoses praises I cannot sing loudly enough. Mrs. Hendrickson, algebra and geometry, turned me into the kid who went to engineeribg school. And Mr, Cunningham, American and World history, instilled into me a lifelong love of history. I have nothing but respect for all who love to teach young kids and pass on their love of their subject. Thanks @huskerblitz . Keep up the good work.

Thank you. Oddly enough my favorite teachers were my 4th grade teacher in Illinois who was an avid hunter and into wildlife (I was too at the time) and my high school science teacher. Hated science...but wound up taking 4 years of science. Best teacher I had.

I really like the Gato Class sub too! I have built a model of the Nautilus and was thinking about a Gato Class next.
My dad was a WWII submariner serving on USS Tinosa, a Gato class boat. That model was made by Magellan Models and is carved out of solid mahogany. The framed piece is a replica of Tinosa's battle flag.

Used bookstores are essential. Those of us who have a serious compulsion to read constantly cannot all afford a continuous flow of new, pricey books.
There are some great finds you can get on Ebay. Just picked up a couple for 5 bucks a piece.
Most of my books are new however. When people say that I might have a problem, I respond, "at least I am not spending it on drugs."
