Just wanted to give a shout out to Norris Bookbinding Company in Greenwod, MS.
They are renown for re-binding old family Bibles, but they also do other sorts of bookbinding. I had them work on one of my ancestor’s books published in 1859.
They usually are able to save the covers and just replace the spine, but mine was pretty bad. They told me they could reattach the front and back cover (like they do for museums or archives) but it would not be as sturdy as they liked. I chose to follow their suggestion and have them simply rebind the whole book in new material. After all I wanted to be able to thumb through the book without worrying about messing with its integrity.
They did an incredible job. They take what they do seriously. So if any of you have old books that need reworking, I would certainly recommend them.
