The Emancipation Memorial in Lincoln Park, Washington D.C. has sparked controversy since its placement in 1876 and remains an important piece of Civil War memory, offering a chance for re-evaluation and reflection. ECW author Steward Henderson wrote about the history of this statue and memorial in 2017. We encourage you to read his post and visit the memorial which is located a few blocks east of the U.S. Capitol Building and Library of Congress.
