Whether free or slave, enlisted or not.

One of the questions on the Mississippi pension application for servants was- "Were you ever wounded while in actual service?"
1280 answered that question and 110 said yes. That's 8.6%.

Now, how many blacks were attached to Confederate armies during the war?
50,000?...60,000?

What's 8.6% of 50,000 - if the percentage holds true?

4,300.

8.6% of 60,000?

5,160.


What was the killed to wounded ratio? 1:4/1:5.
