Planning a trip to Fredricksburg & Chancellorsville this spring. Am fairly familiar with Chancellorsville but have never read much about Fredricksburg. Looking at Amazon, I am considering getting either The Fredricksburg Campaign: Winter War on the Rappahannock or Fredricksburg! Fredricksburg! Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated!

The Fredricksburg Campaign: Winter War on the Rappahannock by O'Reilly is without a doubt the best book I have ever read on ANY subject. It's almost a minute by minute blow by blow account of the Battle of Fredericksburg.

I never understood the fight on jackson's front till i read O'Reilly. Recomend to read just for the detail of the fighting man in the battle and in general.

I read Simply Murder by Chris Mackowski & am now reading the O'Reilly book. Simply Murder includes tour directions so I will be sure to take it with me when I visit Fredericksburg at the end of the month.

I have always enjoyed the Stackpole series but have not read Fredericksburg yet. I will check that one out next if I have time before going.

Savas Beattie is releasing a "Maps of Fredericksburg" in Fall 2017...would be a great companion to any book. Am reading O'Reilly right now and really enjoying it. It may be my favorite book on a battle/campaign.

Both of those can be useful. The emerging civil war books tend to be smaller and get you the basics of the battles and serve as a good appetizer to bigger, more detailed works. I have read Simply Murder and it's well done

Yes, that is the plan. I will try to catch all 4 battlefields if possible.

I finished reading the O'Reilly book and thought it was great. Comparable to Return to Bull Run as far as I'm concerned as far as a great book that enriched my knowledge of a specific battle.

I've heard that unless you have have a few days, trying to cram in all 4 is not a good idea.

To close the circle on Fredericksburg and Chanclelorsville I suggest you give Chancelorrsville's Forgotten Front the Battles of Secomd Fredericksburg and Salem Church a look.
