Best Corn-fed Army Award

Feb 20, 2005
Goes to the Corn-fed boys in the West. Yep, them boys who held their land despite Union naval superiority and manpower. They whupped Banks in the Red River and Porter's fleet was imperilled (thanks to a cooperative falling river). Still, them Corn-fed under Kirby Smith held onto their chunk o' the Confederacy until everything else collasped around them.

The war in the West in perhaps the least read and appreciated of the Late Great Unpleasantness between States. It didn't have the big names or the huge battles like Gettysburg or Shiloh. It is not bias inasmuch as it is neglect by scholars and students alike.

And what do I do? Nothing. I'm just a book reader who dabbles in rite-ing.

Mods - please move this thread. I'm geographically dysfunctional.
