Thanks. I've now picked up all four volumes.
I'll be interested in hearing your opinion of them.

This links to some info on Spotsylvania including OOB's and some battle reports by a few commanders.

ok, it looks like volume 2 will soon be out.I've yet to see it in bookstores, but I believe Ed Bearss has a new 2-volume set on the Overland Campaign / Siege of Petersburg.
Didn't know if you were aware of this, a work in progress I believe : http://www.beyondthecrater.com/
Hi. I didn't realize you were behind that site. Great work. Thanks for the share. It is indeed a work in progress. I'm slowly adding more material all the time...
Since they will take me 90 hours to read, you'll definitely get my opinion of them.I'll be interested in hearing your opinion of them.

Yes, but I'll be getting to that in the fall, so I'm happy for the suggestion. The Siege of Petersburg, though, is after the Overlanad Campaign.

Don't forget Theodore Lyman's letters. Originally titled, Meade's Headquarters, it was re-released as With Grant and Meade from the Wilderness to Appomattox with an Introduction by Brooks Simpson.

Thanks.Lyman is a good one. Here's the free link to the Google Books version:

Also, Lyman kept detailed notebooks from his time with Meade. Kent State University published these notebooks not too long ago. The detail is amazing and the price is pretty reasonable. You can get a used copy for under $10:
Meade’s Army: The Private Notebooks of Lt. Col. Theodore Lyman
I have finished the first three in Rhea and I am half-way through Cold Harbor. All are very well-done.I'm confused (as usual) by a lot of this - if I want to read one, good book about the Overland Campaign, which would it be? If multiple volumes are required, does one start with Rhea or Bearss?
