Been out for a while...

Been out of the hobby for almost 8 years now... Have the politics of today's world pretty much killed the hobby? Has interest waned since the 150ths? I was one of those "hardcore" "progressive" types, I'm sure that part of the hobby hasn't really changed, a lot of backstabbing, etc. I just know that the mainstream farbfests in Alabama are dwindling by the year. Just curious.
