Thanks for posting, this brings back a lot of memories. I grew up in the Cleveland area and the monument is quite a gem.
There was a fascinating article recently in Cleveland magazine about the area beneath the monument.

You're very welcome! Thank you for the cool article! So you're a fellow Clevelander I presume?

Yes, I continue to keep an eye on happenings in Cleveland, even though I haven't lived there for quite some time. Something about the area really stayed with me. I remember taking photos of the Soldiers and Sailors monument when I was a kid with my first camera. It looks better than ever now. Another favorite Civil War-related spot was the James Garfield memorial in Lakeview cemetery.

Well hey, this is my hometown attraction. It really is a cool place to visit. I remember when they renovated it. They brought in a guy from the Natural History Museum to help with restoring some of the stone.

I have been there as well. Lakewview Cemetary is a Garden Cemetary, and quite beautiful. I took a tour with Dr. Hannibal of the Cleveland Natural History Museum. We looked at the stones used in various monuments and headstones. Really interesting. When you visit be sure to visit the Chapel, with the Tiffany stained glass windows.

I lived about 35 miles east of Cleveland for 33 years. Received most of my nurses training in Cleveland and worked in the Cleveland Clinic Hospital before moving to Charlottesville and then to Appomattox, VA. I have fond memories of northeastern Ohio. Thanks for the posting.

My son is going to apply to be the caretaker. He is a history major, with experience in docenting. In fact he was training them at the local historical society. He has written several articles for them as well. One has been published in their newsletter, and the other is pending. The published article is about Dr. Kirtland and the death threats he recieved, and the pending article is information about the firearms and swords that are in the collection. He isn’t a veteran, but his Grandfather served in WW2. First as a Merchant Marine, and then in the Navy.

Been there many times. Beautiful monument. Hello to all northeastern Ohioans out there past & present. There's a lot of Civil War history in this area.
