I'm by no means a McClellan apologist but have to disagree the battle was inconclusive. Lee suffered a much higher casualty rate and left the field of battle on the night of the 18th/19th. If Antietam is to be classified as tactically inconclusive then Gettysburg was also tactically inconclusive.

Of course the CSA suffered a a higher rate. They had half as many men.
