Pre-War Profession Lumberman.
War Service July 1861 Capt. in 4th Wisconsin, served under Gens Butler and Banks in the Dept. of the Gulf, June 1864 Col., chief engineer of Franklin's XIX Corps, saved the fleet in the Red River campaign (thanks of Congress), Mobile, April 1865 appointed Brig. Gen. of Volunteers (to rank from November 1864).
Brevet Promotions Brig. Gen. U.S.V. June 7 1864, Maj. Gen. U.S.V. March 13 1865.
Post War Career Sheriff.
